The Space

 

Matchstick at Riley Park offers great natural lighting (when Raincouver weather allows it). The overall feel of the Café exudes a bright and welcoming atmosphere. I’ve come here several times and the baristas are all friendly and willing to chat about their favourite cup of coffee and how best to enjoy it. There is an uncanny sense of community in this location and the Saturday morning I went was packed with regulars, hipsters and coffee enthusiasts galore. All of the conversation added to the hum of a beautifully busy café.

 

The Offering

 

Matchstick serves up quite a large selection for pourovers. If you want to try it out there are many many many to choose from. I find that the overall bean choice is fruity and acidic. The team at Matchstick uses a deadly combo of the Chemex and Kone filter to brew their pourovers.

 

They serve and offer much more than just coffee and espresso based drinks that many other cafes serve. They have numerous types of toasts and a small menu if food is what you fancy.

 

My personal recommendations: walnut butter and jam toast, early grey and poppy seed muffin and a cup of the Martinez.

 

The Verdict

 

If you want to go to a place that’s good for conversation then Matchstick is where you want to go. They offer loads of choices for food and the coffee & espresso based drinks are always consistent. Ask their baristas for suggestions and don’t be scared to ask about the differences in their pourover selection. The bright and warm space is what keeps me coming back for more.
